AMH-401A Hysteresisgraph

For evaluating soft magnetic material

The AMH-401A High Frequency Hysteresisgraph is a personal computer based hysteresisgraph for measuring the magnetic properties of soft magnetic materials. The AMH-401A measures the magnetic properties of soft materials at frequencies from 50 Hz to 1 mHz with an external power amplifier (Model 4014A). Both core loss and hysteresis loop parameters (with curves) are displayed on a high-resolution color monitor and easily manipulated by keyboard and mouse control. A laser printer or any MS-Windows compatible output device may be used to present both the test values and the hysteresis curve (BH loop), or the data may be saved to the computer hard disk for later analysis.

The precision, simplicity and speed of the AMH-401A make it suitable for both the research and production environments. Applications include the measurement of soft ferrite and amorphous cores as well as electrical steels and high frequency magnetic devices that can be evaluated at their actual operating frequencies.

An optional oven allows testing of samples at various temperatures.

Reported Magnetic Values: Remanence (Br), Coercivity (Hc), Maximum Induction (Bmax) Maximum Magnetizing Force (Hmax), Core Loss (Pc), Core Loss per Unit Volume (Pcv), Core Loss per Unit Mass (Pcm), Peak Permeability: Bmax/Hmax (µp), Peak Secondary Voltage (V2max), Phase Lag of Primary Current to Secondary Voltage (), Frequency (f)

Waveforms Displayed: Hysteresis loop, Primary current signal (360°), Secondary voltage signal (360°)

  • AC tests to 1 mHz
  • Keyboard Selectable SI or CGS units
  • Automatic fluxmeter drift compensation
  • Automatic sample demagnetization
  • 64k buffer memory for fast sample testing
  • Windows 95 operating system and software
  • Internal hard drive capable of storing results from thousands of tests
  • Programmable pass/fail limits for quality control applications

Test Modes Available with AMH-401A Series

  • Bmax: Sample is driven to achieve an operator specified Bmax value
  • Hmax: Sample is driven to achieve an operator specified Hmax value
  • DC Biased (H bias) test modes: Bmax or Hmax testing may be performed with a user-selectable H bias. The instantaneous sum of the H bias and the AC excitation may not exceed 5 Amperes

H bias current may be imposed externally by adjusting the amplifier DC offset manually or by inserting a rectifier in the primary circuit. The system will measure and report the resulting H bias level.
